HOW TO BUILD A BETTER YOU | VISION 2020
____________________________

START WITH…
FAITH
Accept Jesus as Lord, Savior and Friend
Make a decision this year and follow through on it

ADD…
GOODNESS
Mastery of that for which you were created
You were created to bring glory to God by being like Him in virtue and moral excellence and your goodness points to His perfection, love and kindness
→ Identify those things in your life of which you are certain “God made me for this”

KNOWLEDGE
Attained through obedience which results in consistency, purpose and hope in all circumstances
→ Set a goal to live a higher percentage of your life in the center of His will and  mindful of His purposes; Daily Quiet Time

SELF-CONTROL
By the power of the Holy Spirit abstaining from certain activities (immorality) and avoiding excesses (greed, etc.)
Self control according to Proverbs is better than achievement or talent
→ Let God guide you to one habit you need to quit or start this year
Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.          Proverbs 16:32
Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.          Proverbs 25:28

PATIENCE
View time from God’s perspective, continue in faith, let delays and trials grow you
Don’t get caught up in this world’s system of hurry, scurry and worry
→ Choose to have margins in your schedule for God’s schedule and plans
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,  because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:2-4

GODLINESS
A practical awareness of God in every aspect of life
Make the right decisions for the right reasons
→ Predetermine to choose God’s way when making decisions

BROTHERLY KINDNESS
(Philadelphia) Knowing God in such a way that it produces love for other believers; “a warm affection”
→ Expand your circle of “warm affection” this year - maybe going a small group, mentor or be mentored, serve alongside someone here at church

LOVE
Agape - love for those unlike us (outside the faith), self-sacrificing, action on behalf of another, flows from God out to the world
→ Determine to share your faith with someone this year
